The curricular proposal in Primary, provides continuity to the Preschool Level in all its aspects, with some variations, among which we highlight the following: The management of the classes in the form of “self-contained” up to the second grade, in which the teacher is responsible for developing work units with the students in different subjects areas.
From third grade onwards, classes are handled semi-departmentalized and/or departmentalized. In the case of semi-departmentalization, the teaching of two subjects per teacher is integrated, such as English and Social.
The Science curriculum in primary school continues to develop the process of scientific thinking, strengthening it beyond the observation and identification of the problem question. With experimental activities, guided by inquiry, the hypothesis approach, data collection, and generating their own conclusions are integrated with greater emphasis. In order to make this process the central axis of our education, we annually organize the Science Fair from the first grade. This event has expert judges who qualify based on criteria given the scientific quality of the projects and experiments presented.
Beginning in Primary, research and critical thinking in the use of Internet sources and resources are further strengthened. These resources of the multimedia database, management of ICT, and implements such as the Smartboard and electronic devices allow dynamic and timely access to information. In Primary and Secondary we have computer classrooms, equipped and capable of developing projects with different types of software and guided access to the Internet. Having this classroom provides students with a greater breadth in learning and educates them in the use of different applications, not only in the normal use in the learning process, but also within a curriculum that emphasizes ethics, critical thinking, and responsible use of interactive resources, which makes our students’ learning more meaningful.
In continuity with the training processes at the Preschool and Primary levels and aware of the need to train competent young people who face the demands of today’s society with solid ethical and cognitive bases, we have a relevant curriculum that, including national standards, also addresses international standards.
The appropriation of curricular contents is given through a methodology that encourages autonomous learning, critical thinking and the development of skills and competences. We approach our process in an integral way and in this sense we emphasize the Character Formation through the Virtues and the precepts of the Christian faith and the Program Your Values Counts (Character Counts).
Through the processes of classroom communication, connection, representation, reasoning and testing and problem solving, mathematical skills are developed in terms of numbers and numerical operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data analysis and probability. In Science, the development of scientific thought is fostered, through processes and development of observation skills and identification of the problem question.
The acquisition of the second language is essential in secondary school and it is for this reason that disciplines and specific subjects are integrated in this language, such as Social Studies, Science up to the 8th grade, Math in 6th and 7th and ICT (Information and Communication Technology). The goal of the school is for students to finish their high school at a performance level similar to that of the native speaker of that language in both practical environments and in academic settings, which allows them to easily access universities both in the country and abroad.
For the Professional Orientation of our students we have the support of professionals who, working in conjunction with our psychology department, develop spaces in which students from 9th grade can learn about different university careers and focus on the vocation of each one of them to facilitate the selection of their professional studies. Additionally, a University Fair is held annually in which 10th and 11th grade students can visit stands and attend the lectures that the different institutions of Higher Education present, including the possibilities of studying abroad.
The continuous improvement in the state test results Saber 11 is one of the aspects on which we focus our academic efforts. From grade 9 we apply mock tests and offer specialized training for the presentation of the Saber 9 and 11 test. We rely on an outsource company specialized in the application of these exams. They measure and review overall and individual results designing improvement plans in specific areas and competencies for each student. Similarly, with students in 10th and 11th grade we develop face-to-face sessions where experts and professionals in state tests offer strategies to more assertively approach the test for each subject evaluated.
Baccalaureate is the space where we consolidate and conclude the cognitive and training processes that allow us to graduate students with a holistic vision, necessary to face the life challenges of today’s society.
